UWA Law School students now have access to a library that provides increased opportunities for technology use and collaborative work.

The revitalised Beasley Law Library opened in August with a 15 per cent increase in seating. Additional features include collaborative study spaces, informal study spaces and conversation areas, as well as USB outlets throughout the refurbished space.

Complementing the new furniture, Dr Richard Walley OAM has produced a series of artworks recognising and celebrating the Aboriginal history of the Law School and acknowledging the Whadjuk Noongar nation as the traditional owners and cultural and spiritual custodians of the land on which the Law School is situated.

The original Law Library opened in 1967. In the decades since, the UWA Law School has transitioned to a largely postgraduate teaching program, with the Juris Doctor and nine new postgraduate coursework programs introduced since 2012. The changing student demographic, combined with the increasing availability of online legal information, led to the library’s re-design.

This refurbishment is just the first stage in an exciting multi-stage development plan.  Further refurbishments are planned for the Beasley Law Library.
